Report: Lebanon Foils Plot to Fire Rockets on Israel - The Israel Project

Report: Lebanon Foils Plot to Fire Rockets on Israel - The Israel Project: "Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah contended in a televised speech that only “resistance,” meaning violence, works to achieve goals.

In his speech, Nasrallah denied reports that Hezbollah fighters were in Syria and Iran helping to quash protests. Most Syrians, he argued, support the Basher al-Assad regime and should return to quiet.

Nasrallah called Hezbollah’s missiles their greatest source of “pride,” Al-Manar, Hezbollah’s news station, reported.

“Why do Israelis fear the Resistance [Hezbollah] obtaining anti-aircraft weaponry? Because the Resistance [Hezbollah] has the will…and courage to use these weapons,” Nasrallah said in a widely viewed martyr’s anniversary speech in 2009."

Report: Lebanon Foils Plot to Fire Rockets on Israel - The Israel Project: "However, UNIFIL’s mission is increasingly about ensuring Iran-backed Hezbollah does not breach United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 that calls for the disarming of all non-governmental forces in Lebanon. Hezbollah has been rearming itself despite Resolution 1701.

Hezbollah is known to have some 40,000 missiles pointed at Israel in southern Lebanon alone.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said last week that “Hezbollah has more missiles and rockets than most states.” Gates confirmed that Hezbollah poses a terror threat and that it has anti-ship cruise missiles in its stockpile.

Even though Israel withdrew its forces from Lebanon, as directed by U.N. Security Council Resolution 425, Hezbollah has maintained positions directly opposite the Israeli border."

Jerusalem, May 31 - “Palestinians have proven they are capable of operating the Gaza side of Egypt's Rafah crossing…There is no need for foreign observers,” leading Hamas figure Ghazi Hamad said on local radio this week, the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency reported.

Egypt opened the Rafah border crossing with Hamas-controlled Gaza on Saturday. Israel fears this will lead to an increase in the flow of weapons and terrorist training to the strip."
